They are called as five stages of dying but I prefer calling them as "five stages of life", yes this is simply life not dying. If we face with the fact that life means dying as a whole and all upsetting events during a lifetime mean illnesses metaphorically, our reactions against those illnesses will follow this "five stages of dying" ceremony:
Start from denying and follow the order, at the end when you come to the conclusion of accepting every consequences without feeling anything, this means you have just died from that illness, again metaphorically. It's not a bad thing, you'll see.
I want to add the 6th stage: Happiness. Now you are gonna spend some time in that stage until you get the next sickness :)
